RBT Practice Resource Source Reliability Audit

A polished question bank can still be a weak study source. Use these 12 checks to examine whether an RBT practice resource shows its sources, respects role and content boundaries, explains its reasoning, and helps you review errors instead of merely collecting scores.

Why audit a practice resource?

1

Appearance is not evidence

Clean graphics, timers, high item counts, and confident explanations do not prove that a resource reflects the current public blueprint. Look for traceable foundations.

2

Explanations shape habits

A rationale can teach more than an answer key—but only when it identifies the relevant fact, rule, boundary, and reason competing choices are weaker.

3

Scores hide different problems

The same incorrect answer may reflect a missing concept, an overlooked qualifier, a measurement-unit error, or confusion about when to seek direction.

The 12-check audit

Check only what you can verify from the resource itself or its clearly linked documentation. “I assume it probably does” is not a verified check.

Interpret the score without overclaiming

Verified checksWorking interpretationPractical next step
0–4Too little information is visible to rely on the resource by itself.Confirm the edition, sources, publisher, secure-content boundary, and correction route before investing more study time.
5–8The resource shows useful foundations but has material transparency or review gaps.Use it selectively alongside current official materials. Keep a list of claims or item patterns that need verification.
9–10Most quality signals are visible and the resource supports structured review.Audit a small sample of rationales and deliberately check the two missing criteria.
11–12The resource demonstrates strong transparency across this checklist.Continue checking the quality of individual items. A strong process signal is not a guarantee that every question is flawless.

Important: this score is a transparency and study-design screen. It is not accreditation, BACB approval, a clinical-quality rating, or a prediction of examination performance.

Run a five-item rationale sample

A

Choose varied items

Select five items from different domains or task areas. Do not cherry-pick only easy items or questions you already answered correctly.

B

Hide the answer first

Write the decisive fact, the rule or definition you believe applies, and the role-safe action before viewing the publisher’s rationale.

C

Compare explanation structure

Mark whether each rationale addresses the evidence, the governing concept, the best option, and at least one plausible distractor.

D

Verify one claim

For each sampled item, verify one important framework claim against a current official public source. Keep the check narrow and traceable.

E

Classify the learning gap

Record whether the miss came from knowledge, qualifier reading, measurement units, timing, documentation language, or role boundaries.

F

Write a transfer prompt

Change one nonessential detail while preserving the same decision rule. If the reasoning still works, you are practising transfer rather than answer memory.

Red flags that deserve a pause

One red flag may be correctable; a pattern should change how much weight you give the resource.

Questions about the audit

Does a 12/12 score prove every practice question is correct?

No. It shows that twelve useful transparency and review-design signals are visible. Individual questions still require sound writing, accurate concepts, plausible options, and appropriate role boundaries.

Should I stop using a resource with a low score?

Not automatically. A low score means the resource provides too little evidence to carry your study plan alone. Verify important claims, use current official sources, and treat unexplained items cautiously.

Can I use this checklist to review a free PDF, course, app, or website?

Yes. Apply only the checks that can be verified from the resource and its public documentation. Do not award points for assumptions about unpublished editorial processes.

Why include commercial disclosure as a quality check?

Commercial ownership does not make a resource bad. Clear disclosure helps a learner understand who benefits from a recommendation and evaluate claims with appropriate context.

Does this page provide clinical or legal guidance?

No. It is an educational study-resource audit. Follow current requirements, workplace policies, training, and supervisor direction for real practice.
